Update: Anglican Watch takes further action against Episcopal priest Mark Anderson over his self-professed adultery, mortgage fraud, and possible tax fraud

Late today, Anglican Watch took four additional steps to hold Episcopal priest Mark Anderson accountable for his self-professed adultery and mortgage fraud, as well as his possible tax fraud and related issues. Anderson is the vicar of St. John’s Cathedral in Jacksonville.

Specifics:

1. We filed a formal Title IV complaint against Anderson. The filing closely followed our original coverage of this situation and included Anderson’s written statements under oath. And while Title IV is a notoriously shambolic process, we have some hope of a positive outcome, as we included Florida assisting bishop Justin Holcomb in our correspondence. Holcomb has long been supportive of abuse victims in the church, and we know him to be a person of integrity.
2. We filed a mortgage fraud complaint with Rocket Mortgage. Our filing included Anderson’s sworn statements. Under federal law, the company must take a structured response, including a full investigation and filing a Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). Additionally, if any federal mortgage insurer insured Anderson’s mortgage, Rocket Mortgage is contractually obligated to file a report.
3. We directly notified the FBI of Anderson’s purported mortgage fraud. Additionally, we flagged his father’s possible role in this matter and raised the issue of Anderson’s potential federal tax fraud. For the record, “I didn’t bother to read the documents when I borrowed $4 million,” will neither fly, nor is it a legitimate defense.
4. We notified the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to alert it to Anderson’s claimed mortgage fraud.
